Spectator Behaviour
Please keep in mind that our referees are young and they are also volunteers doing the best they can. Marlborough Touch will not tolerate any bad sideline behaviour. The referees will be making the calls, not the spectators. If there is bad sideline behaviour those people will be asked to leave the field.
Drop off Procedures
The Toss
At the start of the game, team captains will need to do a toss with the Referee as this will determine who starts in overtime. The referees will ask both captains to do the toss during the two minute music. If your team wins, they have a choice to either tap the ball first or go on defence. Please note that if they do decide to tap first, when overtime occurs, the team that was defending first will then start with the ball.
Rules
When the hooter goes off to end the game, the referee will immediately send both teams back to their sub box.
Each team will have 60 seconds to sort out which players will take the field. The hooter will go off once again to signal teams to go back onto the fields.
There will only be 4 players allowed on the field after the 60 seconds is up. If it is a mixed team, there is not allowed to be more than 2 male players on the field at once.
There will be 2 minutes given for teams in overtime and during that 2 minutes, teams will have the chance to score tries. If teams manage to score more tries and are leading at the end of the 2 minutes they will be declared the winner. However, if both teams are still tied, the referee will blow his whistle to stop the game completely and teams will need to take one player off the field. If this happens it is important to tell the attacking players beforehand that they must stop exactly where they are until both teams have sent their players off. From here, the referee will blow their whistle to start the game and the first team to score a try will be the winner.
Subbing
You are allowed to sub players off during any time of the drop off but they must be off the field before you send the next player on.
Sin Bin
The time in the sin bin is finished when there have been 4 completed possessions. Possessions can be determined by a try or a change of possession, for example if teams had the ball two times each.
If there is a player who has been put in the sin bin during the drop off, the team will need to continue without that player until their time is up in the bin. If you started with 4 players and one of them was put in the sin bin, the team will need to play a 4 vs 3 until they are allowed back on. Teams will not be allowed to sub somebody else for that player during this time.
